Farm Experiences in Mallorca: Visiting Sa Cabreta in the Serra de Tramuntana
Share
Mallorca attracts millions of visitors every year. Most of them see the same things, the beaches, the old town of Palma, the coastal resorts. But away from all of that, in the mountains of the interior, there's a completely different side of the island that most tourists never find.
The Serra de Tramuntana is a UNESCO World Heritage Site running along the northwest coast of Mallorca. It's a landscape of ancient olive groves, stone villages, terraced hillsides, and working farms that have been here for centuries. And it's here, in the heart of this protected mountain range, that you'll find Sa Cabreta.
WHAT IS SA CABRETA
Sa Cabreta is an organic farm and artisanal cheese dairy founded in 2019 by a group of young locals who made an unusual decision, they left the tourism industry to return to the land.
Their reasoning was simple. They wanted to work in a more conscious, sustainable, and local way. They wanted to produce real food, care for animals properly, and invite people to understand where that food actually comes from.
The farm focuses entirely on goat dairy, using Murciano-Granadina goats raised with genuine animal welfare standards. The young animals stay with their mothers rather than being separated early. Milking happens once a day, respecting the natural rhythm of the animals. Everything is organic, certified, and done by hand.
The cheeses produced at Sa Cabreta are made entirely on-site, one by one, with natural rinds that give each piece a unique character shaped by the Tramuntana landscape and microclimate.
This is not industrial production. It is craft, done carefully and slowly.
THE EXPERIENCES AT SA CABRETA
Sa Cabreta offers three different ways to visit, depending on how much time you have and how deep you want to go.
Guided Farm Visit with Cheese Tasting
This is the entry point, a two-hour guided experience that takes you through the farm, explains the organic farming and cheesemaking process, and ends with a tasting of artisanal goat cheeses paired with a glass of local wine.
It's ideal if you want an authentic introduction to farm life in Mallorca without committing to a full day. The tasting alone is worth the visit, the cheeses have a character you simply won't find in any shop.
Group size is flexible, from 10 to 40 participants, making it suitable for families, couples, and larger groups.
Farm Visit and Full Gastronomic Experience
For those who want to go further, Sa Cabreta offers a three-hour experience combining the farm visit with a four-course tasting menu. The menu is built entirely around seasonal, local, and organic ingredients, the kind of cooking that reflects what the land actually produces at that moment.
This is proper farm-to-table dining in its most literal sense. You visit the farm, understand how the food is produced, and then eat it. There's no gap between the story and the plate.
Private Tasting Menu with Wine Pairing
The most exclusive option at Sa Cabreta is a private tasting menu created by chef Andreu Segura. Seasonal ingredients from the farm and surrounding region are paired with carefully selected local wines.
This experience is designed for small groups seeking something genuinely premium, intimate, thoughtful, and rooted in the best of what Mallorcan agriculture produces.
WHY THIS MATTERS IN MALLORCA
Mallorca has a complicated relationship with tourism. The island receives around 13 million visitors a year, and the pressure on local culture, food systems, and rural land has been significant.
Sa Cabreta represents something genuinely different, a farm created not for tourists, but for the land and the community. Visiting it is a way to engage with Mallorca in a more meaningful way, to support local producers directly, and to understand the island beyond its coastline.
The Serra de Tramuntana has been shaped by human hands for thousands of years. The terraced hillsides, the dry stone walls, the ancient irrigation systems, all of it speaks to generations of people who knew how to work with this landscape rather than against it. Sa Cabreta is part of that same story.
